Sansom Street Gym Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

When it come to gay hangouts, I've been to bars that are more like sex shows and bathhouses that have been more like BDSM dungeons, so it was actually something of a relief to go a gym that actually has a lot of decent gym equipment in it. The Sansom Street Gym is located in downtown Philadelphia, and I'm not surprised at all that it draws quite possibly the most coveted group of gay men out there: hot ones who like to pump iron!

The place is big enough to actually hold a lot of social events, too, so in reality this is one of those few places that really does have a little something for everyone. Philadelphia's gay community has a lot of choices now in how they wish to spend their time, so it's great that places like this are really stepping up their game.

ABOUT:

When it comes to working and checking guys out, Sansom Street Gym has got you covered. Open all day and night, every day of the year, it (obviously) has a gym and a whole lot more to keep you occupied no matter when you stop by. Membership is required, and while $10 can get you a day pass, it's a better deal for a six month pass, because it comes with a free room immediately (and these rooms are quite clean and spacious, and each has a television). The gym itself is quite large and has several pieces of modern workout equipment, but there's a lot more to this place than just exercising.

They have a great sundeck, which is perfect during the summer months, but they also have the usual sauna and steam rooms. All of these features means that even if you're here during the day and there's not a lot of other people here, you can still have a good workout and relaxing time.

But when the place does start to get hopping on the weekend, they have a dark play space where anything goes (watch your step and careful with your hands), and a very large lounge and dance area, which comes in handy during Friday and Saturday night social events. All in all, Sansom Street Gym is big enough on its own to practically be a club on the weekend, and a gym all the other times. The only thing that unites the two is just a lot of guys coming by to hook up and have a hot time.

CONCLUSION:

Thanks to Sansom Street Gym, it's never been a better time to be a gay gym rat. The fact that (unlike a lot of bathhouses who still have workout equipment) they have the word 'gym' in their name means you know that a lot of buff dudes are going to coming here regularly to work out and maybe need a partner for cool down. But even beyond the actual weights, it's a really fun time here because the keep the sauna rooms hot, and the rooms you rent are clean and spacious.

You can tell that owners of this place really want it to be a success, because their passion is seen not only in the cleanliness of the Sansom Street Gym, but of how the employees treat all the members when they arrive. A bit of kindness brings in a lot of customers, and that's definitely the best way to keep a really hot gay gym going.

Pros
  • Even though you spend a lot of your time walking around and socializing walking through this place (and then all the fun that comes after), one of the best things about the Sansom Street Gym as far as I'm concerned are the rooms. Even the standard room still has a flat screen TV inside it (although it's only got one channel, but it's showing exactly what you want). The VIP rooms have their own ensuite, which completely surprised me, especially since it was only thirty dollars! I mean, it's nice too use the group showers, too, but now I could invite people back to my own.

The fact that they have the word 'Gym' in their name means you can have high expectations (at other bathhouse they say gym, and it's just a couple free-weights and one bench), but fortunately they certainly meet them, as there is a lot of great nautilus equipment here. It's a lot of fun working up a sweat beside someone who can't take his eyes off of you.

The staff are excellent, and I've seen them do a great job at cleaning up some sudden messes, and I've seen them toss out trouble-makers who just can't follow the rules (they were already drunk, so it was an easy call). It's this sort of activity that really makes everyone a lot more trusting and relaxed about the environment, and that an important step in making sure everyone can have a great time.

Cons
  • Like a lot of bathhouses, the Sansom Street Gym can be quiet during the day, and absolutely rammed on Friday and Saturday nights, where it's less like a bathhouse and more like a crazy club, especially when it's during one of their special events. And while these can be fun in their own right, it can get so busy that rooms are all sold out, and you might have to find another person to shack up with (oh darn…).

Some of the decor can updated, but that's a bit more nitpicking I guess. And yes, while I know that dark play rooms are supposed to be dark, here it's almost too dark, and you might slip or stub your toe on something or someone.

I heard whispers about how I would have to be careful with my belongings because occasionally people might break into lockers, especially some of the older ones, but that's no surprise to me. It's a problem at a lot of bathhouses, and the way around it is to not bring anything too valuable here in the first place.
