The Zone LA Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

If Los Angeles is the city where you want to be seen, then The Zone LA is one of the few places there that bucks this trend, and the experience at this gay sex club is all the hotter for it. Now I certainly don't mean that this club is trying to hide or be discreet because they think there's a stigma against gay sex clubs or anything like that, because that's definitely not the case in California. What I mean is that this place doesn't seem to be that interested in paying its full electricity bill because it is really dark in there!

There are so many ways to hook up in a giant city like Los Angeles that you can almost go to school and get a degree in it. Of course everyone is always kind of swiping through the social media apps like Grindr, but if you want even more anonymity and less texting, you really can't beat a good old fashioned sex club, and The Zone LA is one of the best ones out there, and I'd say that has a lot to do with excitement and mystery of never knowing who is around the corner that is ready to have as much hot fun as you are.

ABOUT:

When you arrive at The Zone LA, you first have to pay a membership fee, which can either be just for the day ($10), or up to five months ($30) if you're already feeling good about it. And then there's the door fee, which gets higher the closer you get to the weekend. They provide lockers and condoms and lube free of charge, which is great, and as soon as you're already to go you can…carefully walk in near darkness through hallways, mazes, and various themed rooms, accidentally or intentionally bumping into hot guys who are just as happy to find you.

It's only a slight exaggeration, but the darkness takes a bit of getting used to. The first time I was there, the staff was very polite in giving me an overview of the place (they do have a patio, in case you do need some light from time to time), but I still fumbled around in the dark until a very nice gentleman found me and brought me to some of private booths were you can watch others put on a show, or quickly put one on yourself (which you are quickly ready to do).

The more you show up, the better it is, which is always great, and then you'll be able to take advantage of a lot of discount nights, like Gym Night (which guarantees a buffer group of guys).

Pros
  • The Zone LA is definitely an example of a sex club where your experience gets better and better each time you visit, and it's for a rather strange reason: On the first visit, it's kind of hard to know where everything is, because they really push the dark, atmospheric vibe really hard. It's almost like a gay sex funhouse, because the lights are dimmer than a regular nightclub, and it makes for a good icebreaker that can lead to al lot of fun (especially depending on what they grab onto to lead you around).

The maze was a lot of fun, especially when you get familiar with it. I mean, I hope it doesn't make me seem mean or kinky, but i liked helping out guys who seemed lost and confused in there. They said it made them feel like idiots, getting lost in some dumb maze, but it made me feel like a knight in shining armour. It's also fun that because it's so dark, it's still a bit of a surprise when you stumble across the BDSM room, and you can watch a lot of the hot, impromptu scenes that go on in there.

And not to sound too much like a prude or a hygiene freak, but a clean bathroom in a sex club is always a good sign, and they've got that at The Zone. Also appreciated is the free condoms and lube.

Cons
  • When is dark too dark? Probably after people who have a few drinks accidentally stub their toes or bump into walls. It doesn't happen much thankfully, but maybe they can have some areas that aren't so pitch black? A lot of hot guys come by here (you can see them on the patio or in the lobby), and I would love to actually see their faces.

I wonder if this darkness things is almost a gimmick that is getting a bit old. Especially in LA, clubs of all sorts can go through periods of feast and famine, and over the period when I was coming to The Zone, it did start to take a bit of a popularity dip. It was strange, since at first it seemed too busy at certain times, and when you start to gripe about that, a month or two later it seems extra empty on a Tuesday night (and now it sounds like I'm complaining about that). I know it's hard to strike a good balance, but maybe some small upgrades would be appreciated, since certain renovations will bring back people who haven't stopped by in a while.

Another thing that's a bit of a problem is it's closing time. Because of it's extra late hours, sometimes the place doesn't get busy at all until after midnight on the weekends, which means you better have taken it easy through the day so you can stay up that late and that long.
