Diamond Club Cabaret Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

I don't need to put up a 'spoiler alert' warning for this review when I say that there are plenty of strip clubs across the great city of Houston. A lot of them are listed right here on this website. This might be a strange start to writing about the Diamond Club Cabaret, but that's because while it is a strip club, it is not necessarily the same sort of strip club that you can expect from many other places. While there is definitely a lighted stage where people can watch a woman dance around and remove her clothes, she doesn't remove them all, and she's wearing pasties over her nipples.

Getting that out of the way in the first paragraph is important, because Diamond Club Cabaret is actually a 'bikini bar', which a lesser known term these days, but was a lot more popular back in the seventies and eighties. And that comparison is also quite useful, because a lot about this club will remind you that era, even if you weren't even old enough to go strip clubs then. This place is a bit like going backwards in time, and not just in terms of the decor, but even drink prices, if you happen to go by there during happy hour.

ABOUT:

I've gone to the Diamond Club Cabaret three times and haven't had to pay cover, because I knew ahead of time that if you come with a ticket stub from that afternoon or night (even if you yourself didn't go to the game) you can get in for free. And that in a nutshell is what Diamond Club Cabaret is all about. It's a place where you can kind of take advantage of this place, but then, it's so old school and kitschy that if you're drinking there in first place, it more like they're taking advantage of you.

It looks like an old-school strip club, but the women don't strip all the way, so it's even stranger when you get a private lap dance. The drink prices are rock-bottom at happy hour, the decor could use an obvious upgrade, and the staff are a lot perkier and friendly than the dancers (even the DJ was hilarious, cracking internally bad jokes between acts). And whether Diamond Club Cabaret now sounds like a place you want to avoid or the kind of place you can't wait to check out for yourself says a lot more about you than anything else. It's definitely an experience you're not going to get anywhere else in Houston, and that's not nothing.

CONCLUSION:

So at first glance you might think that Diamond Club Cabaret is a real hidden gem, but then when you look a bit closer you realize it's a complete fake, but then you think about it for a while and then you're totally okay with the weirdness of the whole experience. The best way to enjoy this place is to leave every sort of expectation for a strip club - including the strippers - at the door. While the women are usually the focus when talking about adult entertainment, at the Diamond Club Cabaret the overall environment should be your focus, and the women are now more of a side attraction.

It's definitely turning the idea of the strip club upside down, or at least sideways, because this place is actually a bikini bar, if we want to use our terms correctly. There's no doubt that this will be frustrating to a lot of guests, who might stomp out in a huff after staying for only a few minutes, but for those of you with an open mind and an urge to try something a bit kitschy and different, you might crack a grin as you're getting grinded on by a woman who will never take off all her clothes.

Pros
  • I think it's just great that the Diamond Club Cabaret is at least trying to do something a little bit different, that it wants to present an atmosphere that sets it a little bit apart from its cookie cutter competition. Being a 'non-nude' strip club in this day and age might sound like an oxymoron and a surefire way to go bankrupt, but in a city as big and varied as Houston, you can definitely find a crowd of people who are totally happy with this kind of nightclub experience, and there's no problem with catering to a specific audience.

One thing that was great - and that really brings in more of a crowd - was the policy to accept a ticket stub from one of the big sports (including the rodeo, thankfully) as cover. So if you went to see the Astros or the Texans, for example, you can come here after and get in for free. Cool. And it's not like you're going to get gouged once you order stuff here, since prices for drinks and dances are definitely competitive with all the other strip clubs in the city (except during happy hours, when it gets wonderfully cheap for beers!).

In a lot of ways, the Diamond Club Cabaret is like a time machine to the seventies. The decor feels that way, the non-nude dancers live up to that, too, and when you're drink $4 beers including tip, you actually kind of like the place in a 'people watching' sort of way, even if you are one of those people at the moment.

You know what, I even remember having a nice conversation with the bartender about the Texans. I know it's weird that I'd remember that at a place like this, but I think it's the first time I had a conversation with a bartender at a strip club that wasn't about the drinks or the women, and it was good. It would be nice if more bartenders were like that.

Cons
  • Well the first and most obvious drawback to the Diamond Club Cabaret is that not everyone wants a club that feels like the 1970s and where the women onstage don't get fully nude. Even though 'Cabaret' is right in the name (suggesting a place that's a bit classier and old fashioned) and it's occasionally described as a bikini bar, there's going to be expectations when your exterior and interior still look a lot like a strip club.

So I completely understand why a lot of people will be disappointed by this place, especially since it'll feel like a waste of money if you paid the cover and then found out that women are all wearing pasties over their nipples. It also makes sense that if you wanted a hot night in a upscale, classy strip club that you would also be upset. It really does feel like a relic from a different time, when strip clubs were still a dark and seedy side to an evening out.
