INTRODUCTION:

I've been a long-time user of LGBT dating forums to find dates. At first it was because I was a Blackberry hold out, and I couldn't run the typical dating apps that everyone seems to use these days to get laid. Then when I finally upgraded to an iPhone, I realized that since my work pays for my phone and phone bill, I probably shouldn't be installing dating apps on it. I know others do, but I was fine on dating sites.

After a while, it seemed like there weren't as many free dating sites as their used to be, so I switched over to dating forums instead. GayForum.com

came strongly recommended recently, so I signed-up for my free membership, in order to see what sort of action it had going on.

Appearing very similar to a general internet message board, I was a little less enthused than I expected to be at first. But then I got my first dirty DM, and I knew that Gay Forum was exactly the spot I was looking for!!!

I've only had late night rendez-vous so far, but I am DMing with a couple people who I'm probably going to be going on dates with soon. Maybe I should wait to write this review until after I've gone on actual dates but I think that I have a very good idea of what the site is about after my couple weeks of hookups.

ABOUT:

Like I said, GayForum.com is a very basic looking message board. That's fine though. In my experience, when a forum tries a little too hard to be fancy, it becomes less enjoyable to use, and definitely not as user-friendly as a forum that knows what's important.

Broken up into 4 major sections, Gay Forum has a Rules and Announcements section where the site's moderatos will post anytime there's important news related to the site, such as server down time, new features, or changes to the forum code of conduct. The Discussion section is where the majority of the chatter happens on the site, as there are sub-forums where members can introduce themselves, talk about movies, TV, music, games & pop culture, a news section, one for relationships, and of course a section where you can share your best (or worst) sex stories or ask the forum any sex-related question you might have.

Then there's the Wasteland, where trivial posts live, and of course a section for everyone's favorite part of an LGBT dating forum... Pictures!

The site's DM system is about as simple as can be, but in my experience on the site so far, it's easily one of the dirtiest dating forums I've come across in terms of what type of messages and pictures you'll get from other members. That might sound a bit aggressive, but if I'm on a forum to hookup, I appreciate a man who's going to tell me exactly what I'm in for in their early messages.

FEATURES:

-Quick and easy sign-up for new members, even if you aren't very computer savvy

-An extremely helpful Unread posts link will keep you from wasting time going through every single one of the forum's different sections, looking to find posts that you haven't read yet (there's also an Unanswered Posts page for if you feel like being the first person to answer someone's pressing question)

-The forum is able to remain free through the donations of its members who appreciate it, and have a little extra money in their PayPal account to send their way

-Privacy is extremely important to GayForum.com, and in order to keep your sexy selfies private, the forum's Self-Pictures section is only accessible by registered members

-Know exactly who's online when you are by reading the site's Recently active list

-GayForum has over 14,000 registered members from all across the globe

-With over 10,000 total discussion topics, Gay Forum is one of the most popular LGBT dating forums around

-Keep track of who's a fellow member, and who's a site moderator by the color of their username in the Recently active and Toplist sections of the site

-Personal messages can be sent to other members through the forum's DM system

-If a member is messaging you that you don't want to be able to message you, simply block them in your personal settings, and you won't be bothered by them again

CONCLUSION:

If you're looking for the cream of the crop, I can't imagine you'll find many LGBT dating forums that are better than GayForum.com.

It's such a well-maintained community that has lots of cool people that I've really had a blast talking to during the day when things are slow at work, and then having after hours forum fun with when it's time to unwind.

For a free membership site to have a dating pool this sexy, is really great, and something that I think after a few dates, you'll agree is worth supporting with a PayPal donation or two.

All of the best LGBT dating forums in my opinion are fairly basic, and do those basics well. Gay Forum is one of those forums.

If you're a little scared off by the idea of being sent an explicit message before even a "g'day", maybe you'll have better luck with another dating forum. Don't bother going back to Google or Bing though.

There's so many great sites out there today for the LGBT community to find love and sex, and it feels like a truly special moment for us to have so many options. I can only imagine what LGBT dating was like before the internet. That's a reality I'm glad I never had to experience.

Pros

Though I've still not gone on a proper date with someone that I've met on GayForum.com, I've met up with more than enough people to know that it's a site that brings the goods. So you might want to find another GayForum.com review if you're looking to primarily use the forum to find romance, if you're just looking for some high quality hookups, I have been extremely satisfied in that department so far.

The basic site design has allowed the site to keep its server requirements low, which means that there's way more space for users to upload more sexy selfies of themselves on the site. Dating forums that don't understand how much people love a Pictures Forum is a pet peeve, so I was relieved to see that GayForum.com understands.
  
As I've already said, the straight-forward nature of the propositions that I've received in my DMs have been really astonishing. I've read a couple people write in the forums that they wish they got such steamy messages and pictures sent to them, so I could be extremely lucky, but I don't usually run this lucky, so I assume it's a fairly common thing on the forum.
  
Being able to simply donate to the site if I so choose instead of having to pay for a premium membership is very appreciated by me (though I think I maybe went a bit overboard in my donation after a particularly good hookup in my first week on the site).

Cons

I had an extremely hard time thinking of things that I don't like about Gay Forum. So far my experience on the forum has been great.
  
Two things that came to mind, aren't things that bother me, and in fact, I listed them as positives above. I understand that not everyone feels the same way about things though, and I might be a bit forgiving of these two things only due to personal preference.
 
In terms of the site's design, I can picture sending friends of mine to the site and having them text me "lol. what's this crap?" without even signing up and exploring all of the great discussions and members that are waiting for them. I've dabbled in website design in the past to make a little bit of extra money though, and I understand that sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go about it.
  
The other potential con depending on who you are, is how aggressively sexual DMs can be. As I mentioned though, it's very easy for members to block users from messaging them if they want to. I'd also just suggest telling people that you want to meet them before seeing what their unit looks like. I'm sure most will understand. And if they don't, it wasn't meant to be anyways!
  
Otherwise, I can't spot any other flaws in the forum aside from a couple really boring members. They're few and far between though!
