INTRODUCTION:

I have to say this first: I first met my Nick on SoEmo.co.uk in August last year, and it's been the best 8 months of my life so far. Nick is my boyfriend and I met him on the same day I used this forum for the first time. This forum grabbed my attention immediately when I first saw it; I landed on it by mistake. I was browsing SoEmo.co.uk as usual when I saw they had forums. Of course, I wondered how I hadn't seen the link before, because I had been checking out the website for a while. Anyway, I was super lonely at the time and very depressed, so I just clicked on it and checked it out. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. The moment I landed, I knew I was in the right place. The forum was more than 100% emo, no questions asked. Signing up was fast. I had an account in minutes, and then it was time to check out the forums. If you haven't met welcoming folks in your life before, if people have always run away from you, it's the opposite. I was literally welcomed into the 'club'. Maybe I happened to check in on a good day because I had over 15 responses welcoming me. Even when I checked out the other forums, there was lots of discussion going on. SoEmo.co.uk has over 10 different forums to check out, so it was fun to go jumping from one to another. It was in one of these forums that I met Nick, who was immediately deep and smart and talked about T.S. Eliot's poetry.

ABOUT:

SoEmo.co.uk is a forum found on one of the UK and the internet's leading platforms for emo people, soEmo.co.uk. It's designed as a hangout for emo people and emo lovers, as a place where they can talk, discuss, share their fears, meet new people, seek advice and do more. The site has been active for nearly decades now and in that time span, it has accumulated its fair share of members and guests, most of the members of the emo community. The forums on SoEmo.co.uk are some of the liveliest ones might ever take part in, especially when many people are online at the same time. The members here are often sharp, smart, opinionated and from different corners of the world, so there are lots of views to listen to and argue against. While its current design is not as sharp as newer ones, SoEmo.co.uk maintains a look that's familiar to its members, a look that balances avant-garde with vintage design. But ultimately, SoEmo.co.uk is more about the emo community, and it does that so WELL! Unlike many other emo forums on the internet, this one doesn't shy away from its other purpose, which is helping single emo people meet similar-minded

CONCLUSION:

I hadn't been on any emo dating forums when I first landed on

SoEmo.co.uk, but I have since visited a few, and the difference is clear. SoEmo.co.uk is way BETTER! I always want to check for alternatives before I decide if something really works for me, so the alternatives I checked out gave me the answer I was expecting. Most of them didn't put safety first, despite acknowledging the sensitive nature of their users. Some of them didn't have as many discussion rooms as I'd have wanted, while others had extremely stringent rules on new sign-ups. From my experience, no other does it better than SoEmo.co.uk. While checking in, I had a feeling that half of the people on this forum were bots rather than actual people, so I was skeptical AF and not sure if this would work. But it did, and I've never been more grateful. I considered applying to be a site model because their submission process was easy, but I couldn't find the time to upload the pictures. Meanwhile, I have to credit

SoEmo.co.uk for making emo look beautiful and normal. It's just so lovely seeing and talking people that look like you in huge numbers, because you know they understand. SoEmo.co.uk helped me find my people. Most of the people I found there were quite nice to me, and they understood my troubles and loneliness and listened to me when I wrote my poems. That's also how I met Nick, so that's double what to thank for.

Pros
  • What I enjoyed most about SoEmo.co.uk is that it is made exclusively for emos. The site features a great gallery for posting photos and every user is allowed to use the gallery as they wish. It also features a site model program, which features users that are willing to model for the site. The best part of the forum is that there an educational page dedicated to resources for emo people; resources include websites, toll lines and video links on internet safety, bullying, emo survival and depression. The information has definitely helped me during tough times and more importantly, no credit card information is required from users at any one point! You have nothing to lose from joining!
Cons
  • I loved using

SoEmo.co.uk, so there isn't much I can really complain about. The few bits that didn't settle with me were mostly benign; meanwhile, the site managers promised that they were working on most. I still had a few qualms here and there. First, the design. I know that many forums still use the older pre-internet designs, but why should SoEmo.co.uk do too? I had a problem with the look and the maroon color palette too. The site's audience is principally teenage, which is to say that older college students and adults will fare better on other forums created for older people. The audience is also largely British, which I should have seen by its .uk domain extension. Brits are fun to talk to, and the audience is filled with many other nationalities, but it would be even more interesting if it had more Americans on it. On my first attempt to use it, I had the world's best trouble trying to get into any discussion. I later learnt that I couldn't access any niche forum without a login, which was tiresome. I later signed up, which took even more time. When I finally did, I was struck by the lack of images anywhere, not even ads. The few images were of the models on the models page, so everything else was dry. Boring, if you ask me. I tried sending in a photo for my consideration as a site model, but the process proved difficult for me because of my limited computer skill. I ended up passing the opportunity.
